Melancholy

Reishi

I fell in love, a love that'll never be

Will I get to see you again next week?

"Why do I have to go with you to this concert? You know I don't like crowds." Sonny Brisko shook his head at his cousin, Millie, who asked him to accompany her and her best friend Enna to some concert happening in town. "If you need someone to drive you, I can do that without needing to go in."

"We already have an extra ticket," Millie told him. "You don't even need to sit with us, just stay in the back if you really don't like the music. Come on, please?"

The blond sighed, seriously, he should be saying no, he could be finishing his Zelda game during the time he had to attend some concert. He wasn't even into pop groups. But Millie was staring at him expectantly and he cursed himself for being weak to his younger cousin.

"Ugh, fine. But you're buying me dinner. I want pasta and good sushi," he said.

Millie pouted "Hey! I'm still in college, dude! But fine, let's go!!" She instantly pulled him along before Sonny could even change his mind.

"Hey!!"

And that was how Sonny found himself in the furthest row of the concert venue, the place was surprisingly full, and he was surrounded by excited fans, boys and girls alike.

Sonny wasn't ignorant of music, he just tended to prefer old and classic songs and he wasn't really listening to new songs lately. He remembered Millie trying to introduce him to this group she and Enna liked, but it probably just went over his head.

He found himself wondering how good this group Millie and Enna liked. Maybe he really should have just escaped and waited for them in some nearby cafe…

Then the lights went dim and the stage burst into bright colors and song.

I casually tagged along

To a live concert I wasn't interested in

Staying in the last row

So bored and fed up

I was about to go home

Until you appeared

"Welcome everyone!! Are you ready?!"

A group of 4 males appeared on stage, singing, and dancing to a very catchy song. That song his cousin and her friend had been listening to every day. Each member of the group obviously had a theme to their clothes.

The one with blue hair had a sense of calmness to him, obviously a mature one in the group. The purple-haired member with mismatched eyes gave off an aura of mystery, and he was obviously one of the most popular if the screaming beside Sonny turning up a few volumes higher when he sang his part was any indication. Then came the part of the white-haired member, his presence was strong and firm like his voice, so he could tell even without Millie going on her PowerPoint presentation in case he asked, that this was the leader of their group.

After him came the part of the last member. While Sonny had several thoughts about the other members of the group, his mind suddenly short-circuited when he saw the last member. Light brown hair, mismatched eyes, and radiant smile, and bursting energy. His lips moved faster than his brain and he could only whisper to no one.

"He's…. cute."

Then the member looked at the crowd and Sonny gulped because it felt like their eyes met.

Oh.

On a distant stage of glistening sweat

With you, who fight undefeated

Our eyes met and my heart thumped

(Butterflies)

The song carried on and the members shone on their own parts. But even if it was the other members singing. Sonny's eyes followed the brunette member, his eyes drawn to his voice, energy, and bright smile…

Oh, dear… Sonny had no escape.

I fell in love, a love that'll never be

You're beyond my reach

Will I get to see you again next week?

Mondays are the worst!

"Thank you so much for the support! My name is Alban Knox and I appreciate all of you!"

"Even his name is so cute…" Call it bias, but Sonny enjoyed Alban's part the most in the group songs. His eyes would tend to follow the male across the stage and screen, even if the spotlight were on the other members.

Right then and there, Sonny Brisko became a big fan of Alban Knox.

LOVE LOVE LOVE I'm your fan

YEAH YEAH YEAH Let out your voice

LOVE LOVE LOVE I'm your fan

Hey hey hey, I love you!

But eventually, the concert had to end, and Sonny instantly felt a sense of sadness. He didn't want them to go just yet… he just knew about Alban! This can't be fair!

His mood picked up when the group announced their next week's activities. And while there was no big concert soon, they did have some guestings and some other shows.

Soon he picked up Millie and Enna who were very hyped after the concert "That was the best ever! Fuuchan my bias is so good!"

"I like Uki better, he's got such an amazing voice." Enna quipped as they got inside the car to go home. "Did you enjoy the concert, Sonny?"

"Yeah, you didn't actually bail out during the concert right?" Millie asked curiously

"Nah, I did watch. They were pretty good," he said calmly.

"Ohhh! Sonny likes them! That's awesome!" His cousin, who was sitting shotgun, was instantly pummeling him with questions. "I told you they were good! Did you see them dance?! And the outfits?!"

Enna shushed her. "The most important thing, Millie! You haven't asked him!"

"Oh yeah! So Sonny," Millie grinned. "Who do you like more? Fuuchan or Uki? Remember, I'm your cousin!"

The blond male laughed at her. "What does that have to do with anything?"

"Well, who's your bias? Spill it."

He grinned, as he remembered mismatched gray and green eyes and a radiant smile. "Alban Knox."

If he was completely being honest with himself, Sonny Brisko thought he was past the age of being a fanboy for anything. He's never done it before and he never once thought he would behave like this one day…

And yet here he was, excited to open a package he bought that contained official goods and merchandise from Noctyx.

The group's next concert won't be for a while, but Sonny ended up learning all the fanchant to their songs, and even if he didn't really intend to at first… he learned the motions for the lightsticks during the songs.

Looking forward to your next live concert

I found myself buying a glow-stick

And quickly calmed down

He was thankful Millie and Enna went back to their college so they would not see him practice the movements.

She did advise about the fanmail letters before she left, and she really shouldn't have…

Because he now had a pile of crumpled up unsent letters inside his room that would be too embarrassing if it fell into the wrong hands.

I ended up writing you a letter

And rewrote it the next day

So I hope you read it

After that, listening to Alban and his group sometimes became a daily thing for Sonny. And looking for videos of Alban became a weekend must for the blond. He would look for random clips and videos of the group (though he mostly just looks for Alban, really).

He realized he had it bad, but he convinced himself it was just a crush. And Alban had a lot of fanboys too (he noticed while he was watching the actual concern and checking the forums) It was weird, but at least he knew where he stood.

Besides, how could anyone not fall for a smile as precious as Alban's right??

You're more expressive, you're smiling more

You who fights undefeated

Can you look at me…please!

(Butterflies)

I've fallen in love with an angel

with an incredible smile

Only weekends are an oasis!

Monday is melancholy

LOVE LOVE LOVE I'm your fan

YEAH YEAH YEAH Let out your voice

LOVE LOVE LOVE I'm your fan

Hey hey hey, I super love you!

Before he knew it, he had been collecting albums of the group and even had an impressive collection of Alban's official merch too. Millie and Enna had been teasing him nonstop about it, but Sonny had decided to embrace his fanboy nature and fully welcomed being a Takaradachi.

l'll take you to the summit

Here's the proof… I'll deliver it to you

Aaaah!!

While he did collect merch and attended shows when he could while waiting for their next concert, Sonny didn't really look into meet-and-greets. After all, he was tall, and a bit bulky. His cousin would often say he was intimidating if someone didn't know him.

So he had no idea what Millie was playing at when she gave him a ticket to Alban's meet-and-greet session.

"Hey! I had to wake up really to get that for you" she scolded him "Make sure to go and meet Alban, okay?!" And dropped the call without waiting for a response.

Sonny could only sigh. He was grateful of course, just last night he was contemplating on getting a ticket himself, but chickened out for some reason. In the end, he guessed Millie had to decide for him.

Meeting Alban…

He was going to meet Alban…

Today.

Holy Shit.

Just like that, Sonny had no proper recollection of how the time passed and by the time he could regain his senses, he was already in front of Alban.

Alban, who was looking up at him with a big smile and for some reason… a small blush on his face "Hello!" His voice was as energetic and lovely as ever. "You are, uhm…"

That snapped him back to his senses "Ah! I-It's Sonny… Sonny Brisko" he belatedly realized he must have been gawking at Alban for a good few seconds. He hoped Alban didn't find him too weird. "Sorry…"

"Oh no, that's fine." Alban instantly replied, his smile never leaving. "Sonny… that's a really nice name."

His heart raced wildly at the way Alban would say his name. Calm down, heart. He's going to hear you, damn it!!

"Uhm, thanks… I, uhm… really like your name too." Great. He seriously could have provided a better response than that. He sounded stupid.

But when Alban laughed, he realized he didn't really mind sounding stupid after all. "You sound like an awesome guy, Sonny." It felt like he wanted to say something else, but the organizer who kept the time suddenly signaled that they should end their talk soon to make way for the other fans who were also there to see Alban.

"Ah…" Sonny felt that wave of disappointment again. What was surprising, was that he could almost… almost felt the same thing coming from Alban.

"Well, thank you for coming, Sonny. I'll see you next week?" He said jokingly, most probably referring to their mini concert happening.

The blond male smiled back, not knowing he was causing Alban's blush to deepen further.

I fell in love, a love that'll never be

with a cunning angel

Will I get to see you again next week?

(We surely can, you know)

Sonny was so sure he died and just went to heaven after that

I've fallen in love with an angel

with an incredible smile

Only weekends are an oasis!

Monday is melancholy

He was definitely excited about the concert and to see Alban again on stage performing. A part of what it would be like meeting him on a normal day but he shook those thoughts away. He was a fan and should be respecting Alban's privacy.

Now, nobody asked, but Sonny Brisko is actually working for a security agency although he rarely goes on the field.

For him to suddenly get a request for security was a little surprising but not really unwelcome. He did wish his bosses had given him more details about the person he was supposed to be guarding.

He arrived at the place where he was supposed to meet his client, so he figured he could listen to Alban a bit before the time… after all the concert was coming soon and he should really polish his fan chant moves and…

"Wow, you're really a fan after all."

Hearing that voice made Sonny Brisko whip his head so hard he felt dizzy for a second. He even had to double-take to make sure he wasn't hallucinating.

Standing in front of him was Alban Knox.

Sonny was as confused as heck, but Alban smiled simply.

"Oh, what do you know, we didn't have to wait until next week after all…"
